Our story, our celebration, our legacy
Saginaw Juneteenth Celebration Inc. recognizes the lasting impact and honors the deep roots of African American history, culture, and community pride. The historical legacy of Juneteenth shows the value of never giving up hope in uncertain times. It celebrates the passing on of knowledge, as a guiding light for generations to come. Together, we will reflect on ways to turn our strengths and purpose into building a bright and bold future unlike any man has ever seen. Juneteenth is our story—and our celebration.

Why Juneteenth matters to all of us
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865—the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day of liberation, resilience, and the triumph of the human spirit. In Saginaw, we honor this legacy because it belongs to all of us.

Freedom's foundation
Juneteenth represents the moment when freedom became real for thousands. It is a day rooted in truth, courage, and the refusal to accept anything less than full humanity. That story shapes who we are.

Saginaw's calling
Our city has deep roots in African American culture, achievement, and community strength. We celebrate Juneteenth here because Saginaw's story is inseparable from the larger story of freedom and progress in America.

A celebration for everyone
Regardless of your race, religion, or creed, Juneteenth invites you to witness, learn, and stand alongside your neighbors. Freedom's legacy belongs to all people who believe in dignity and justice.

The passing on
When we gather each June, we pass down knowledge as a guiding light to the next generation. Young people see themselves reflected in our celebration and understand that their futures are rooted in resilience and pride.
